Couple years ago, I bought a case of AA 410 skeet ammo to shoot in my Mossberg 500 pump to kill rats in the backyard. I could have used a 22, but I am not that good a shot, bullet would have "carried" further. I wasn't being "sporting" I just wanted dead rats.

Bought some Remington Gun Club #8 12 Gauge for $3.98 per 25. Aint bad.
where might you be purchasing these elusive boolits.... based on the numbers it sounds like Dicks

Back when I reloaded 12 ga, I figured a nickel a round, penny for the powder, penny for the primer, penny for the wad and 2 cents for the shot.

Bought some #9 shot. May as well go all out.
You will start to limit your distance with #9. I shoot 8 or 7.5. I use 1 ounce loads. I was shooting herters for a while but I'm now looking for something else. They didn't have the flats last time l was at cabelas. Last time l shot l used federal 1 ounce #8. It shot well but it is very dirty. My chokes were caked when l shot about 150 rounds
Federal Gold Target is THE best loading in 8s I have ever used . Not sure what the difference is, but they are my goto round if I want to do some serious shotgunning.
I have been trying all sorts of ammo and am now going to throw as much lead in the air as possible.
