Hi all,

I have always thought it weird that people cover the serial numbers on their guns when selling. Is there any good reason for it? What can anyone possibly do with the serial number on your gun?

Or is it people just being dumb as I suspect?

Thanks.

I've always hear that it's a good idea to cover them so some of the anti-gun nuts don't call it in as stolen FOR you!
Don't know if that's true or not.

I have heard that anti-gun people will cruise sites and get serial numbers to make sure they show up on some kind stolen gun registries.

Probably not very effective, but just another form of harassment. I would doubt they would try to file a police report, because that could get them in trouble if the fact that it has always been legally owned comes out. But you never know, them people ain't smart.

Probably also some insurance scammers out there making claims and need to find valid numbers.
