assault weapon ban is already taking a nosedive

The President may not have drafted the legislation and as a member of the Executive Branch he will not vote on it. But do not deceive yourself, Obama has a long-standing anti-gun agenda and has his fingerprints all over the proposed AWB. Did you miss all the news events and speeches on the subject by both the President and Vice-President? I don't know how you can defend this President on this topic.

If this was the case, why didn't he do something the first four years? He had ample opportunity.

Lets see...suspended the rules of habeas corpus allowing for indefinite detention of Americans without benefit of due process. Created a "kill list" and assassinated American citizens (and many foreign civilians) without benefit of due process, placed high ranking military commanders based on their willingness to fire on US civilians, aided and abetted the US Attorney General in allowing thousands of illegally purchased guns to "walk" into Mexico, was complicit in the murder of American citizens in Benghazi, created a militarized and nationalized police force by expanding the DHS through executive order, allowed for the federal government to take over and control ALL communications through executive order, and called on Congress for massive and sweeping gun control measures in violation of the 2nd amendment......for starters. He's just getting warmed up.

In regards to the statement of indefinite detention of Americans, that also falls under the Patriot Act. The Senate and House both had to have passed this for it to have been signed into a law.
"Congress and Senate approved the National Defense Authorization Act in December 2011 and President Barack Obama signed it December 31, 2011"

I think your points are valid and in angers me that a president would ever sign this legislation; but, this was passed by both the house and senate. Your anger should be with those individuals, not the last person to see it. Both the Senate and House had the option to override the bill with a 2/3's vote and they couldn't come to a compromise.

They do this for the reason of having people panic, with no intention of the initial bill ever coming into fruition. But, as mentioned, it allows the general public to cool down, seeing that it's not going to pass, then they go in for the kill of the original reason that started this; magazine limitations and background checks on ALL sales of firearms. Now is not the time to settle down and reap the rewards from the battle we have won, because the war is still at hand. CONTINUE to write your congressmen and women and let them know that you're aware of what's going on and that the wool will not be pulled over our eyes that easy. We are not done fighting just yet. When it comes to our rights, there is NO COMPROMISE! Period.

I no longer have it handy, but if someone has the list of email addresses to our representatives, please post them again so that we can begin round two. Also, if you have found a generic prepared statement that is specific to the magazine and background checks issue that is intelligent and politically relevant, please post that as well. I think that all our Mods should give them an infraction as well and put them in time out.

Give who an infraction and put who in time out? Congress?

^^^ exactly

Obama has never said he was pro-gun. The difference is that even though he was anti-gun he never proposed any item that would change gun laws. He could have done something the first eight tragedies but chose to stay out of it. To say he had some sort of agenda after a slough of tragedies gave him carte blanche to propose these items sounds like whining more than proven theory.

^^Once again, this is the most dangerous kind of conservative, a "middle-of-the-roader".....^^
