For those of you with a DA Ghost, the wipes are now considered parts

Idiots posting videos about home made items that are deemed unlawful... they get tons of views which hence gets attention from the big brother.

Kind of like the AR Pistol Brace thing... hundreds of videos of guys shouldering a brace and then it gets revoked after it was approved.

Agree 100%. And then those threads where people show off their AR pistols. WTF. Shooting ourselves in the foot.

I don't know. I'm not expert but I think it's due to the fact that wipes makes the silencer quieter. End caps and muzzle devices don't so I don't see them coming after them

Actually end caps can make the suppressor quieter, but FOR NOW they are not considered suppressor parts because generally speaking they aren't required to hold the baffle stack in place.

Not sure why this is a surprise.... wipes have been ruled as 'parts' for decades. That's one of the reasons you don't generally see cans using them anymore.

As far as I am aware, there is no all encompassing rule that says that wipes are part. In fact DA said in their statement that they were not not going to challenge this because they didn't want to affect others in the industry. I don't see how a wipe can be considered a part in this case since it's not a requirement for the can to function.

What's next...are they going to say ablatives like wire pulling gel or water are also parts? :confused2:

Somebody commented in a thread the other day about having a 9mm can with and extra end cap that had a .22 sized hole in it. They said it made it alot quieter than shooting .22lr through the end cap with the 9mm size hole.

I didn't even know that it was legal to have different end caps for the same can, but evidently it is (for now).
Yeah with some cans u can buy extra end caps with different hole sizes with no legality issues.

I remember seeing this mentioned here...

They talk about how using ablative materials like wipes and copper wool were considered 'parts' requiring manufacturer replacement by the ATF. But like so much in that book that was out of date info. I guess they changed the ruling on wipes back in '99.

So much for a kinder, gentler, more sensible ATF...
