Georgia Campus Carry

This bill and the other 2 gun bills were engrossed by the Senate earlier.

No Amendments can be added to any of the gun bills being voted on the Senate floor today.

It passed the Senate yesterday (leg day 39). It will now go back to the house to approve the changes made in the Senate. IF it passes the house tomorrow (leg day 40, last day) it will go to Deal for either signature or veto.

If you would, contact your House Rep and ask them to agree to the substitute to HB280 passed by the Senate yesterday so it does not go to a Conference Committee. We need it to get to Deal desk. This is not the ideal bill, but it does decriminalize campus carry. We will work hard again and come back to clean up the other prohibited places. This is a step forward.

This new version of House Bill 280 sucks, but it is an improvement over the existing law which has virtually a complete ban on carry outside of your own parked, locked, vehicle.

The exceptions in this law --meaning the places which retain a gun ban and felony level penalties for people without a GWL-- are stupid and nonsensical.

In the future, with a more reasonable governor, we can point out the absurdity of these artificially carved-out gun free zones and get them removed. That's a lot easier than repealing all school-related gun bans in all areas all at once.

Agreed.

Should I contact my reps to vote for this step forward no matter how small?
