How to date a s&w ?

I recently picked up 2 s&w's 4506-1 and 4566tsw. I would like to know where i could go to find the mfg. Date based on the serial number. Any help would be great. Thanks woodman

There's not an online database of Smith serial numbers, but the Standard Catalog of Smith & Wesson by Jim Supica will have the info you need.

Ruger does, but Smith & Wesson doesn't. Smith lists the information needed to order a history and letter of authenticity (for a fee) but no resource of serial numbers, at least not that I can find.
