There is an instructor where I just retired from that is into such activities.
I rebuilt a compressor for him. Made for a good lab activity.
I've seen him come in with a huge cherry on his cheek and bruised arms.
Sounds like loads of fun.

my brothers and I have it bc we are reserve and national guard and they never issued us armor but we need it to go to the damn ranges…lol…so we just bought as close as possible to a mil issued plate carrier. You can’t tell the difference on the range or a training lane at all.

You have to go to special issue and your unit has to schedule it. If there’s no big reason for it, you won’t get anything. If you’re mobilizing for a big training mission or deploying you get all the sweet gear.

I can see wearing body armor if your going out looking for a fight. Buying ammo and practicing so you have the ability to head shoot makes more sense.
