Properly stored anything on the list would do fine for defense. Handguns aren't designed as optimal offensive weapons. I thing ammo may we'll be more of a factor as when it is unavailable it doesn't matter what kind of gun you have. And besides, the armored robots the government sends to pick up the non-compliant aren't going to be stopped by a handgun.

Hk USP / mk23 needs to be added to the list . I have had mine for most of my life . It’s a pistol that has never failed me and has proven itself worldwide.

It’s one of the few handguns that can be easily used by anyone. My mother can lay down death easily with the mk23

Those are beautiful, by the way, but do you trust that plastic in 50, 60, or 100 years? I love the plastic fantastics, and don't currently own a metal framed handgun, but the thought of passing something down to future generations has me thinking about adding some metal to the collection.

Given the constant attacks on gun rights by the left, & appeasement by the right, it’s not a stretch to imagine a different gun rights landscape in 20, 30, 40, or 50 years. Will handguns be outlawed altogether?

With that in mind, and thinking about what guns we can hand down to our children in the event of a leftist utopia sans new manfacture handguns, what’s the best handgun (category or model) on the market now, that will still be going strong in 40+ years? We see 1st Gen Glock plastic holding up after 30 years, but what about in 30 more years? We’ve also see some of those plastic frames crack.

That said, which metal framed handgun is the best choice to hand down to our future generations? Keeping in mind reliability, existing aftermarket support, ammo capacity & availability.

What’s your choice for a 100-year handgun, if we woke up one day with an ‘86 style handgun ban?
HK Mk 23 SOCOM.
