It seems that the Benelli M4 had this title for a long time.

Recently it seems like there is more competition for the title.

M4 takes the cake.

New entrants might compete, but they certainly don't have a proven track record anywhere near that of the M4.

The 1301 may make a push, and it's cheaper, but still doesn't have a track record to compete at this point.

Laughing hard at anyone on a Mossberg 940. They haven't figured how to make dead-nut reliable semi-autos

Realistically, the M4 will hold the title until someone comes out with an equally reliable and tough semi that takes mags and then further builds a strong track record

I may be biased because I have one, but the M4 is just on another level. The build quality is superb and I frequently find myself just holding it and admiring it when I'm not shooting it
