Bill of sale: yes or no?

"I'm sorry sir! I didn't realize you have this un-notarized piece of paper. You can be on your way." Is that how you see it playing out?

Do you really think an agency with a warrant can't figure out who someone is from their handle? "Oh, wow, we will never crack that ODT handle code!"

Why in the hell would I give you my address with all of the gun porn threads? What is the point of meeting at a neutral location if I am going to tell you where my guns are when I am not home?

If I want a gun bad enough, I will sign a generic BOS but I am not telling you where my wife lays her head at night. The question is: Why do you feel the need to compile the personal information of the people on this site?

Do you really believe that someone would go through the trouble of selling a firearm in order to compile someone's name and address? For example, if someone had your phone number they could simply do a reverse search to get your address. ;-)

I believe there is no reason to give anybody my home address. Why would you want it?

If someone requires a bill of sale, I have to really want the firearm to do it. I thought it was a good idea at first to require one, but it turns away too many buyers. I always ask the buyer/seller if they are legal to own a firearm and I have to see at least a GA driver's license or GWL. I'm of the opinion that we should do whatever we can, within reason and without infringing on people's privacy, to make sure the ODT doesn't turn into a loophole for criminals. Some here may not agree with that, but that's their problem, not mine. You flash your DL to buy smokes and liquor, so if you can't show me at least a GA DL to buy/sell a firearm, sorry, no deal.

You can't give me one good reason for giving you my personal information. Many cell numbers are disassociated with a physical address and it is the privilege of every member to remain as anonymous as he likes.

For me personally it's a good way to record a transaction that "could" have other consequences in the future, like in the examples above. Even without a BoS being notarized it would make it a lot easier for a LEO to see where the gun went after it left my hands. I'd do the same thing when selling a car, a boat, my house but as mentioned before not so much for a couch, TV or toaster. I have 4-5 BoS from guns I've sold and I honestly couldn't tell you the names on them, other than one guy that I ended up becoming friends with and now we shoot together. However if I need to reference them at any time I know exactly where I've got them filed.

I see where people wouldn't want to give up a name, address, DL #, GWL # and all that - that's getting a bit deep. But a name, address and phone number isn't too much to ask. JMHO

EDIT: I see you commented again and said I can't give one good reason. I feel that what I said is a good reason to ask for that info.

Some ass decides, after the fact, he did not get the best deal. Do you want him PM'ing you or showing up where your family is?

That's a scary thought.

What do you think about a BOS that only shows the person's name as it appears on the DL, and city of residence? No DL #, phone #, or other identifier, just full name and city of residence. Would that be reasonable?

If I want the gun, I would but I freely give up my anonymity on this site. My name is in my handle, my location is right below my avatar and my signature has my phone number. I do, however, understand the privacy concerns of many of the members here.

I'll fill out a bos if it makes someone happy. Only info going on it though is. NameCity and statePhone numberBeyond that, your not getting it. My employer doesn't even have my home address.
