1 1/2. Any bigger and it doesn't fit through the belt loops of jeans and some other pants too well.

i use a blackhawk instructors belt, its a little pricey but was worth it my full size sig sauer rides comfortable and doesn't move around much if at all

Another thing to add, I like the infinite adjustability that the Wilderness style belts have over the leather gun belts. The infinite adjustability is much more comfortable to me because I simply snug the belt until it's perfect, whereas the leather belts always seemed too loose or too tight.
