SB501 Would establish the following laws pertaining to firearms.

  1. 14-day waiting period for firearm purchases.
  2. Need a permit & thumbprint to purchase a firearm. Allowed up to 1 handgun & 1 long gun purchase permit per month. Sheriff can deny permits. You must keep your permit for at least a year in case anyone checks.
  3. All private sales also require a purchase permit, and must go through an FFL. And weirdly, must be done in-person unless you live more than 40 miles apart from each other.
  4. All firearms must be kept securely locked up at all times if not being lawfully carried.
  5. If your firearm is stolen, you have 24hrs to report it or you risk fines and jail time.
  6. "Large-capacity" magazines outlawed. Large-capacity = more than 5 rounds
  7. Background checks for ammo purchases. Even private sale... Apparently they're going to set up a phone line the public can use.
  8. Only allowed to buy 20 rounds of ammo every 30 days. (doesn't apply to ammo purchased & used at a range)
  9. Records must be kept of all ammunition transfers. Doesn't say how long.
The above does not apply to police.
