How do you respond to people on the street that ask you for money?

I get asked for money on a regular basis by people in stores, at the gas station or in parking lots.

So either I look like a nice Christian soul who is willing to help those in need OR they view me as a boob from Mayberry, that is the sucker of the month! I have given people small amounts before, but not all the time.

So how do YOU respond when people on the street ask you for money? Do you give them anything? Does it depend on the situation? Thanks.

Almost never.

First off, I don't smile and/or make eye contact. Almost never. If someone gets through that and asks; I simply tell them I have no cash. Which is mostly true. I don't carry small bills. I use debit card for most everything and only have cash for good deals on ODT...

I’ve bought food for people that genuinely looked like they needed it. If they ask for money, I usually just say no thanks and keep it moving.

It really just depends on the situation. But to be honest I don’t make enough for me and my family and I bust my ass everyday at work.
