LEO discount and this was when Glocks were terrifying innocent citizens at the airport etc etc etc...when I started policing in 79 I bought my first Smith model 19 for 112 dollars
I remember 22lr Remington 50 rounds were like a quarter. Maybe 1958 at Western Auto. We would collect pop bottle empties 2 cents each or a nickle for a quart bottle.
$1.09 at Kmart...but you had a bolt action and it would last. Now I have a semi and well, it just doesn't last as long.
I'm just glad I got into 5.45 this year at 13 cents/round and almost everyone is out. I've heard folks say that you could buy the tins for like 79 bucks not too long ago.
Way back yonder when I first started shooting... mid '50s....22 LR were $0.22 per box, Longs were $0.18 per box and shorts were $0.15. I bought .32 Winchester Special for $2.00 a box.You could buy any kind of gun you wanted through the mail. I bought a K98 Mauser for $15 and an 03-A3 for $20. I bought 30-06 hunting rounds a few at a time from our local General store, maybe $0.05-$0.06 a round. Shotgun shells were around $1.50-$1.75 for a box of 25. We could buy our .22 ammo from our school shooting coach for $2.00 a brick of 500. My Dad bought me my first deer rifle...it was a Model 94 in .32 Special, he paid $35 for it from a local guy. I could buy a Coke for $0.10 and get $0.02 back for the bottle. Sounds good.....but most people were making around $1.00 an hour then.....we lived on a dairy farm, I think I made about $20 a week back then working 50-60 hours a week unless I was in school.
