Out to 500 yards, the .243 with 90-105 gr. bullets shoots flatter than the .308, making it more forgiving in errors of range estimation or atmospheric conditions that affect trajectory.

The .243 is a very popular round, with ammo available everywhere in many bullet types and degrees of quality. You can get premium ammo for the .243 for two bucks a shot, or you can get plain soft points for 70 cents on sale.

TOSS IN the advantage of less recoil in a light weight hunting rifle, and I saw the .243 is the best overall round for most "big game" and hog hunting in the South.

But... I'd get a .308 if I thought that I might one day hunt bigger game in other parts of the country, or up in Canada.

I already have my 308 so I would be very interested in this if I were buying today...
