Veteran discount at Home Depot

Both stores are no longer giving vet discounts on big ticket items like appliances because the veteran discount was being abused by vets buying those items for nonvets...and I don't blame them. We are our own worst enemy because of knuckleheads who just HAVE to abuse the privilege.
I agree with the part we are our worst enemy, HD gives up to $400 discount on $4000 per year , Lowes flat 10% on everything, bought a zero turn for 3599.00 and got $359 discount.

I've never tried for a vets discount as I was Air Force and loved what I did. No thanks or discounts necessary. Veteran discounts always made more sense to me for the guys who actually had to fight. As far as restaurants go, I'm usually too busy trying to convince them it's my birthday to remember a veterans discount.

I’ve been buying from them for years with no problem getting the discount, then a couple of months ago I had one cashier tell me that I couldn’t use it unless I installed their app on my phone. When I replied that my phone couldn’t install the app she still flatly refused to give the discount without it. It pissed me off enough I just left what I was going to buy with her and walked out. Life‘s to short. The next time in a because I had forgotten the episode she wasn’t working and I had no problems just showing my ID like always, and everytime since no problems. Then yesterday I get the same APP bs from a different cashier, with the it’s not my fault it’s from corporate line. I was in a hurry and didn’t feel like going to another store so I just picked the box of nails I was buying up and walked down to the contractor checkout and amazingly had no problems getting the discount with my ID just like always and no mention of needing the app. Anyone else run into this?
I had the same thing. They changed policies and the short answer is install the xtra pro app. Send them a copy of your dd214 and you will have to take one additional step within the app. Then every time you tap the xtra pro id at the register (any register) it will add your discount. Your wife, kids, Freinds and contractors can enter your phone number when checking out at the register.
