I think it's theft, and both the store employee who made that decision and the store (business) itself-- if that's their policy-- should be held liable.

If you're going to appoint yourself a cop and decide to enforce the laws by confiscating property, you damn well better be right about the laws because the consequences of being wrong can be severe.

The store & its agent should be paying tens of thousands of dollars to this young man in compensation & punitive damages for what they did.
