Yep I think they still should once case is closed. They are under paid and deserve some reward for what they do for us (tickets aside lol).

It really feels good in the hand---might shoot it one day

Just buy a crappy one and shoot it :) save the cherry one.
 
I have an 1894 Winchester chambered in .38-55, made in 1915 that was handed down to me by my Grandfather that I will never shoot. I have shot it in the past but I got it appraised a few months ago and was quite surprised of the value. Apparently it is a very rare configuration.

Oh and Chopper and I own a pair of sequentially numbered Czech surplus SKS' from 1969 that have never been fired. I personally don't plan on shooting mine.
