Speaker David Ralston casts doubt on bill to allow concealed firearms without permit

I`m not going to whine. I appreciate what we have. I remember not being able to carry concealed at all in Ga. I remember taking a .22 pistol into the Paulding County court house to register it. I was given a "Pistol Toter`s License". Exactly as I said. It had to be open-carried. I appreciate the lawmakers that have gotten us this far. Some of you guys whine like democrats when everything doesn't go to suit you. I still want a carry license, even if we don`t have to have one. I would need it in other states. The writing is on the wall after this election. Ga ain`t always going to be run by Republicans. Enjoy what you have now. At least I`m retired. I can move.

I don't remember what it was like to not carry concealed... because I never did....It was illegal and I did it anyway....I carried for 10 years before I decided to get a permit, and that was just so I didn't have to wait on a background check. I don't care if the libs or socialists start running Ga, I still won't stop carrying. Feel free to run where ever you like, like the saying goes: Lead, follow or get the hell out of the way

Yep, lay down and crawl....you might get hurt.
I bet by the time your grandchildren or great grandchildren get old enough to carry, it will be illegal. But then again, they can always move.

Georgia is much better than North Carolina in regards to gun laws. For example NC still has the Jim Crow era pistol purchase permits.

When I was in high school I got caught balls deep in a woman I probably shouldn't have been banging. Someone closely related to a deputy. He hated me for it. Borderline stalled me trying to find excuses to lock me up.

Well I escaped That small town and joined the Marine Corps. 6 years later I moved back to my hometown.

Went to the local gun store and found a pistol i wanted. So I put my money down and went and applied for a pistol purchase permit. Went ahead and signed up for the Conceal Carry Class going on that afternoon and filled out the application to get my CCW while I was there.

A week later I get a letter from the sheriffs department stating the Sherrif was denying my pistol purchase permit and CCW due to "Questionable Moral Character". While I was gone Deputy Asshole had gotten elected sheriff.

I Appealed the decision but of course being in a small town the good ole boys network upheld the Sheriffs ruling.

I never did get my CCW or a single Purchase Permit in that county. I got my FFL instead.

Moral of the story is....y'all got it good in Georgia. In some states your firearms rights are left to the arbitrary judgment of the CLEO.
Not saying we can't get better...and we should never stop fighting for it to get better. It is however, better than lots of places. Be thankful for that.

GA does have some of the best gun laws in the US right now. However I'd really like to see us become another Constitutional Carry state.

That being said, we'll be lucky to hold our own the next couple of years. This guy may be a political schmuck, but he's not wrong that the Dems are going to be beating down the doors in 2019 and 2020, and it's better to circle the wagons than try and push something new that simply gets more Dems elected.

Timing is everything. If we can get a GOP President in 2020 then would be the time to go for it. In the short haul, we need to play defense.

This is exactly why he is against Constitutional Carry. Let that sink in for a minute...

I'm against what you dumbasses call "constitutional carry" because (1) it would let the anti-gunners lump us responsible gun owners with thugs, gang-bangers, losers, criminals, and idiots who "own" a gun or two but don't know sh*t about them, or about the laws on carrying them, or the laws on the use of deadly force. Most people responsible enough to take the time and trouble to get a carry permit are ORDERS OF MAGNITUDE safer for our society than the average Joe (or Jose', or Jaafar). Every time some a-hole shoots and kills some innocent person, the media will point the finger at us and say "One of YOUR PEOPLE [gun owners who carry] did this!" Right now, we can reply with "No, I have a GWL and that robber / killer / reckless, drunk gun brandisher" didn't." MY PEOPLE -- meaning CARRY LICENSE HOLDERS-- commit felonies with their guns almost never. Even police officers commit more felony gun crimes than armed citizens with carry permits."

And because (2) "constitutional carry" would kill our chances of reducing the number of off-limits locations in Georgia. Cops can carry off-duty just about anywhere. Why can't private citizen permit holders? We've been pretty successful and cutting down on the number of off-limits locations over the last 12 years since GeorgiaCarry.Org was founded, but when you get rid of the permit requirement, then kiss any further loosening of the no-carry zones goodbye. We won't be able to weaken the restrictions found in 16-11-127 or 127.1 any further.

... Reading his signature, he may BE one of those pro nfa guys? Holy s***.

I've owned every sort of NFA restricted weapon and device there is. I am a lawyer and I write NFA trusts for clients that want to go that route.

As laughable and pathetic your "accusation" is, and as OFF-TOPIC to this thread about constitutional carry, I'll say this: Machineguns and bazookas and hand grenades (subject to the NFA and Title II of the GCA of 1968) should not be sold the same way that conventional sporting and personal defense (Title I of the GCA of 1968).
The $200 tax was too high in the 1930s, but by the early 1980s inflation had made it much more reasonable.
So when it comes to full autos, I think the NFA / Title II of GCA legal scheme as it existed from the 1970s to April of 1986 (before the Hughes Amendment banned newly-made machineguns) was OK. I have no complaints about it, and would not beat the drums of war to repeal it as it existed then, as applied to full autos and bombs and explosive ordnance. (SBRs and SBS's should be no more restricted than handguns, both being more portable and more concealable than traditional long guns. Silencers, too, should be treated just like the firearms they are attached to. Buy a silencer from any FFL dealer and fill out a Form 4473 on it, just like you would for the gun that will eventually be the host weapon for that can.)

You forgot to point out that in NC you can open carry without a permit,

There was a significant federal case on this a few years back on whether doing do so created probable cause for a body search, and the Fourth Circuit Court of Appeals definitively said "No."

... Anyway, I don't really need to see anymore of his posts, so *click*.

That's right. I forgot Georgia got rid of open carry somewhat recently.

However more examples of draconian gun laws in NC

Signage carry's the weight of the law. Despite the fact there is no regulation on how the sign just be displayed, size, location or contents. Get caught in a establishment with a no guns sign you are looking at the possibility of a felony.

You must notify LEO at the beginning of the interaction you are a concealed carry holder, present your ID and CCHP.
