Two Colt “m-16’s” for sale in Macon...and opinions about ownership

??????

That’s still a MG.

Who the hell offered that? Did you smell bacon?

Oh yeah, legit MG. 3rd hole in the receiver, Property of US Government marked, etc. I know damn well it was stolen. I wanted it in a bad way. I believe in integrity and karma so I passed. Damn sure didn't want to.

Hell yeah!

That was most definitely a trap. Whomever attempted to sell that thing was not who they appeared to be. You met a fed.

Those gun don't get stolen much, and when they do, they damned sure wouldn't cost $400.

I remember a gun dealer back in the 80s telling me to look for that hole. He said some undercover guy had just been by trying to set him up at the gun show. Exactly the same deal-no sear, but had the hole. He knew better. Glad you knew better.

That hole makes it a MG-regardless. Just like a stamp on that M2 carbine receiver-even if that gun has no FA parts.

Be very careful out there.

I've heard and read the stories like that lol...

I don't think this was a trap. A 19 year old kid had it and he was trying to raise money, he was either going to jail or he was going to court and knew he was going to jail, something along those lines...can't remember the whole thing. He wound up selling it for $275 to somebody, I don't know who. This kid has been in and out of jail/rehab, etc...looks like a never ending cycle and won't ever get right. Can't get off the drugs and can't break free from bad friends.

Or, he was being used to set people up.

Think about the situation.

If it was stolen (doubtful, because folks generally don’t leave something like that laying around for meth heads to grab,) why would the sear be missing?

I doubt someone like that would even know what it was-much less how to remove it.

It was a bait gun. Exactly like the one the dealer told me about. A sear makes less knowledgeable people ask questions, a hole doesn’t. I’m sure the ATF uses a gun like that many times, in many situations.

I 100% guarantee that was a setup. Very fortunate you didn’t bite.

Just because you knew this kid’s background doesn’t mean he isn’t being used in a sting.

I’m not trying to be critical, I’m just saying this is a good illustration of why folks need to be careful, Setups and stings really do happen. I have seen 3 pin AKs on gunbroker. I have seen ads for illegal drop in auto sears. Used to be one in shotgun news every issue.
