How many rounds till you trust your pistol?

I had asked which one of us you were talking to, but now I see he mentioned being 20 in another thread

My bad. Yeah I just remember seeing that in the other thread. I thought you had to be 21 to even own a hand gun in GA. Not that it's mine or anyone's business I was just curious. Sorry not trying to hijack your thread olchevy.

To put in my two cents, I'll know after the first mag in most cases. My PF9 did have to grow on me though.

I did not know that...What are the laws concerning transportation and carry?

Possession of handguns by minors; Minors (persons under the age of 18) are NOT allowed by Georgia law to possess handguns unless the following exceptions apply:

1. Attending a hunter education course or a firearms safety course.
2. Engaging in practice in the use of a firearm or target shooting
3. Engaging in an organized competition involving the use of a firearm or participating in or practicing for a performance by an organized group
4. Hunting or fishing pursuant to a valid license if such person has in his or her possession such a valid hunting or fishing license if required; is engaged in legal hunting or fishing; has permission of the owner of the land on which the activities are being conducted; and the pistol or revolver, whenever loaded, is carried only in an open and fully exposed manner (no concealing of the firearm)
5. Traveling to or from any activity described above, provided that firearm is carried in a unconcealed and unloaded fashion.
6. Any minor who is on real property under the control of such person's parent, legal guardian, or grandparent and who has the permission of such person's parent or legal guardian to possess a firearm.
7. Any minor who is at such person's residence and who, with the permission of such person's parent or legal guardian, possesses a pistol or revolver for the purpose of exercising the rights authorized in Code Section 16-3-21 or 16-3-23. (self defense laws, listed further down the page)
8. The exceptions DO NOT apply to any minor who has been convicted of a forcible felony or forcible misdemeanor, as defined in Code Section 16-1-3, or who has been adjudicated delinquent under the provisions of Article 1 of Chapter 11 of Title 15 for an offense which would constitute a forcible felony or forcible misdemeanor, as defined in Code Section 16-1-3, if such person were an adult.

(It appears as if GA law, even though prohibits minors from possessing handguns except as provided above, does not prohibit minors from possessing rifles and shotguns, unless they have been convicted of a felony or forcible misdemeanor. Under GA law, children under the age of 13 cannot be considered or found guilty of any crime.) (16-11-132, 16-3-1)

Technically you are allowed to keep it in your vehicle unloaded with ammo separate. I have some Leo's tell me I can have it loaded since now a vehicle is considered mobile private property.....But regardless of what I "can" do it stays at home Cause I don't want any misunderstandings from misinformed or ill informed Leo's. A good bit of my family and friends are Leo's and they know it is no problem, but I just leave it at home just in case. If it is left at home then there are no misunderstandings to be had.

usually 200 rnds is fine with zero probs. but any malfunctions will change that comepletely.

i usually do 200 rounds as well with NO issues. If there is one malfunction I start the count over. If there are 2 malfunctions it is a designated plinker or gets sold.

500 rounds minimum, preferably 1000. The key is that it needs to be 500-1000 rounds of the actual round you'll be carrying. Shooting 1000 rounds of FMJ and then carrying something different won't tell you anything about the weapon.

Yeah I know what you all mean.....I know everyone says oh buy a glock they never malfunction....BS I have a Glock 23, and it has two magazines (Factory NEW!!!) that it malfunctions with every time, the metal liner is slightly out of spec causing the slide to catch on it. With two other mags it has ran flawlessly(1000+ rounds)......But I guess this brings up another point, just because your gun has ran perfect and you use factory parts, anytime you get new stuff mags, parts etc. run it through its paces again.

They all malfunction, regardless of brand, and anyone who tries to tell you otherwise needs a piss test. A reasonably clean and well maintained weapon will be less likely to malfunction, but it will happen, and that's why you incorporate transitions and malfunction clearance into your training regimen. I've lost count of the number of guys who brag at the beginning of a class about how their Glock/HK/Sig/whatever never fails and then struggle when it fails during a string of fire because they don't train on malfunction clearance.
