I think people's definitions of essential has been skewed by all the plandemic shutdowns and what the govt has deemed "essential "

I think some of you don't understand the word essential. Essential basically has to be used with a defining phrase as in essential to what. Essential to the barest form of survival? Essential to a way of life? Essential to happiness or health? I do not think that when the governors of most states (as well as the president) deem something to be essential that they are referring to being essential only to the barest form of survival/existence. I have not made any mention of CTD's pricing or anything else to do with that. I asked a simple question regarding the government deeming a particular industry as essential and I get a bunch of nonsense from people who seem like they have some kind of agenda. If you think that the government can decide what is essential to your barest form of survival and then only allow you to have that then maybe some of you need to think about who you are calling a socialist.

Why not? You certainly have.
You are missing the whole point. You cannot pick out a certain thing and decide whether it is essential or not without stating what it is or is not essential too. You cannot just use the word essential as meaning that it is essential to the barest of survival needs IE: food, water and shelter. That is not what the word means. An example from the Mirriam Webster dictionary: Discipline is essential in the military.

How many times have you had to fire your weapon in this country to defend your way of life?

Whether I have or haven't or the number of times is irrelevant to the point. I have never had to shoot anyone to protect my property but that doesn't mean that it isn't essential that I am prepared for the possibility. I personally have never had to overthrow a tyrannical government but the framers of the constitution wrote the 2nd amendment with that in mind should it ever become necessary.
