Lost a cherished friend tonight

Man, I'm so sorry for your loss. It's like losing a piece of your soul. Keeping ya'll in our prayers.
I lost my Sammy a year ago. I know what you’re going through. It’s so hard. We have a shrine for ours. You can never replace them. We have two new dogs now, but they will never replace Sammy. It’s tough brother and my prayers are with you and your family right now.

It’s so sad
We've said goodbye to four Goldens in the last 20 years. My Grace will be eight in March. I cherish every moment with her. All I can say is get another. It doesn't replace what you lost, but your old pup would want you to have another.

Here's an excerpt from my favorite author, Dean Koontz.

“Dogs’ lives are short, too short, but you know that going in. You know the pain is coming, you’re going to lose a dog, and there’s going to be great anguish, so you live fully in the moment with her, never fail to share her joy or delight in her innocence, because you can’t support the illusion that a dog can be your lifelong companion. There’s such beauty in the hard honesty of that, in accepting and giving love while always aware it comes with an unbearable price. Maybe loving dogs is a way we do penance for all the other illusions we allow ourselves and for the mistakes we make because of those illusions.”

Dean Koontz in 'The Darkest Evening of the Year'.

Hard to replace unconditional love of a pet. No judgment. Just total loyalty, trust and unconditional love. There is nothing like losing a companion like that. It’s brings even the most manly of men to tears.
